He called me to ask me to meet him urgently. I told him that I needed about an hour to travel down from my office. He said ok and that he was walking towards the bus stop to wait for me. He waited for me for more than an hour as I lost my way. A patient man.
We talked for about 2 hours. The feeling was a little odd and difficult to describe. I was complaining of backache as my document bag weighed heavily on my shoulders. He offered to carry my bag for me as he walked me to the bus stop. I declined politely. I never liked the look of a grown-up man carrying a lady's bag! It looked awful. He offered me to send me off to my next destination, but I declined as I knew that Ed was waiting for him.
That night around 10pm, Ed called me while I was having dinner with Vivian. He asked me whether I was free to go to that same pub for a drink. As I tried to politely decline as I was really tired, I could hear K's voice in the background.
Ed was too persistent. Being soft-hearted, I gave in and agreed on the condition I brought my friend Vivian along. It was a strange feeling to be meeting K so frequently.
At the pub, I could feel his stare as I chatted with Vivian. He was unusually quiet and he seemed to be lost in thoughts. Vivian quickly chatted him up and we had a game of cards. Slowly, he warmed up after a couple of drinks and came and sat with me. We chatted for a while and out of the blue, he popped the question. My heart skipped a beat and I held my breathe. I was mentally unprepared. I was at a loss of words and suddenly, the air froze and I became very tensed.
