the last straw - a lie

Kel called to say that he was going shopping alone at Chinatown.

I thought about it for a minute. Strange...

Kel never liked to shop. Everytime he went out with me shopping, he would be waiting impatiently outside the shop for me and he would be always asking when to go home. Someone who doesn't shop will never go shopping alone. Moreover, what's there to shop at Chinatown?

It was a lie.

I called back immediately. I asked him what he was thinking of buying at Chinatown. Silence. No answer. I told him that if he were alone, maybe he could come and look for me at Jurong East. He replied that he was with his friends and that it wasn't convenient.

Lie confirmed.
I hung up.
