don't take time for granted

Met this new gal friend Carrie just now, she is a friend of a friend. Somehow, our conversation brought back some memories as I was sharing with her that I remembered the sad incident of a friend from HCJC who committed suicide in 1995. Suddenly, her face froze. And she counted the years. Her best friend's brother committed suicide around the same time. So we knew the same person - the scholar who decided to take his own life, leaving his family and friends bewildered, with no signs of depression. Just a letter left to ask the sister to take care of his parents.

We were both appalled and we could not comprehend the kind of determination he had. The determination to die. Why did he chose this path? To this day, the reason of his death remained a mystery. He told nobody about this decision and just quietly go and execute it. The sheer determination to die is a scary thought. Thinking about it now, 12 years after his death, still send shivers down our spines. Nevertheless, his death left a deep imprint in our lives - the urgency to cherish people around us, be it our family or friends, and never to take time for granted.

Somehow, the rest of the night left us ordering more drinks. More drinks to numb sad memories.

I guess when people decide to kill themselves, they are no longer in their right frame of mind. The devil has taken control of their minds whispering things like, "You're hopeless, useless, unlovable...it's better for you to leave this world."

It's easy for us to wonder and find it hard to comprehend a suicidal person's mind; but it is terrible to be the one in depression and agony.

Hence, it is always better to open up and cry and sekk counsel. the quiet ones who kill themselves dont' often open up and hence catch many of un by surprise.

the oriental express: How true! The devil is indeed the one planting lies in the depressed person's mind!
