Movie - "Letters to God"

Tyler Doherty is an eight-year-old cancer patient who loves God first and soccer second. Brady McDaniels is a mailman struggling with alcoholism and the break-up of his family. Tyler writes direct, heartfelt Letters to God as a means of praying his way through his illness. Brady picks up those Letters on his postal route and is touched and changed by his encounters with Tyler's faith; so are many of the other characters who populate the unabashedly Christian family drama Letters to God.

The film's co-director Patrick Doughtie, who lost his real-life son Tyler to cancer in 2005, wrote the initial screenplay for Letters to God. Although Doughtie fictionalized many of the elements of Tyler's story for the big screen, it's clear that this film comes from a deeply personal place.

A heartwrenching and touching movie made from a true story. For those of you who are struggling with issues in your life, those of you who feel that God is very far away, you will find the answers in this movie. Golden Village at Vivocity only.

journey to the centre of the earth

The original story and book "Journey to the Centre of the Earth" written by Jules Verne was one of my childhood favourite reads and so when the movie was out, I decided to watch it.
The movie started off well. I particularly liked the suspense in the beginning where the discovery of the journey was all by chance. It kept the plot exciting, especially the discovery of a totally new world beneath the surface of the earth. I would have preferred if they have put in more effort to design "new" & imaginary animals & plants. The appearance of the Dinosaur, the Piranhas, the Loch Ness Monster and the giant Venus' Fly Trap gives me the feeling that they're just throwing all the "ready-made" items into the broth. It just lacked creativity. The romance between the scientist and the mountain guide was so cliche and unnecessary. I seriously think that they need new blood in the team of scriptwriters - people who are more creative and people who are not so idealistic when it comes to love.

10 Promises Between Me and My Dog

One day a puppy comes to the house of Akari, who has just turned twelve, and was trying hard to act strong after her mother suddenly fell ill. She immediately falls in love with the puppy and names it "Socks" after the paws which looked like they had white socks on. Akari was together with Socks day and night. Wherever Akari would go, Socks will follow. Akari would take care of Socks, and also Socks healed Akari's sadness to recover from her mother's death. However, as Akari grows up, her feelings and interest moves away from Socks. Year by year, their distance grows, which also leads to her physical distance as she moves to a far off city, and must leave Socks behind to a childhood friend. One day Akari remembers the 10 promises that she had made with Socks (and her mother)...

Shrek 3

"He's surly, uncouth and the most unhygenic of anti heroes. Yet, he's loved by audiences and has won the hand of a princess. His name means 'terror' in Yiddish but try as he might be to be frightful, he's just plain lovable - glowing green skin, abundant ear wax, thickened toe nails and dry wit. Yes, we return to the land of ogre extraordinaire Shrek and his ragtag band of fairytale friends."

~Quoted from the article "Royal Circus" by Hazel Yong of Lifestyle.

I thought that was a pretty intelligent way of describing Shrek. Indeed, Shrek 3 was an animation that was really worth watching. I must share with you guys the most memorable humourous quote from the movie that left me laughing my head off. The scene where Pinocchio was questioned by Prince Charming with regards to Shrek's whereabouts and Pinocchio's "tai chi" answers to avoid letting the cat out of the bag! Super duper funny!

Quoted from the movie Shrek 3:

Prince Charming: You! You can't lie! Where is Shrek?
Pinocchio: Well, uh, I don't know where he's not.
Prince Charming: You don't know where Shrek is?
Pinocchio: On the contrary,
Prince Charming: So you do know where he is!
Pinocchio: I'm possibly more or less not definitely rejecting the idea that I undeniably
Prince Charming: Stop it!
Pinocchio: Do or do not know where he shouldn't probably be. If that indeed wasn't where he isn't!

The next hilarious part was when Princess Fiona, Snow White, Rapunzel and Sleeping Beauty were being captured and locked up.

Quoted from the movie Shrek 3:

Snow White: Right! Ladies, assume the position! [Sleeping Beauty falls asleep, Rapunzel sits on a high stool with her braid trailing, Snow White lies down in her coffin pose, and Cinderella seats herself on the floor gazing dreamily into space]
Princess Fiona: What are you doing?
Snow White: [exasperated] Waiting to be rescued!

So much adult jokes for a cartoon. If you guys noticed that even "Hooters" appeared in Shrek. Hahaha... Oh well, so much for a movie review.

movie review

1. Love issues:

Watching the Spiderman 3 left me teary eyed throughout the movie. I must admit that I'm an emotional freak. Every character did what they did out of love, even the so-called bad guys. The Sandman out of love for his dying daughter, Harry out of love for his late father. The sad part is that they let their selfish love turn to hatred. And in turn, they are hurting other people. Being myopic, they failed to see the big picture.

The consolation is that realization of their folly dawned at the very last scene.

Love should be selfless. But being human, many a times, the possessiveness come into play and love turned ugly. Love transformed into jealousy, hatred, murderous thoughts. How many people can be that cool-headed when dealing with love? Taking a step back to see the big picture. Love is supposed to be kind. Love is supposed to be forgiving. Love is supposed to be selfless.

2. Superhero is human and human makes mistakes

Spiderman turning evil and then repenting and turned good again. This twist to the plot is something rather controversial I would say. To me, superheros in my era was perfect. They were heros. They save the world. They are pure and innocent. They have a good heart. They are everything good.

Why did Spidey turn evil? Out of external uncontrollable circumstance?

Walking out of the cinema, at every other corner of the shopping mall, I noticed something disgusting. Black spiderman toys with evil eyes are lurking everywhere. Kids adore them. I do not know what kind of influence this has on our next generation, but I know it is not a good one.

I do not think that kids can pick up the gist of the show: Repentance. They dwell on the part when Spidey turned evil. They love it. Just look around us. What accessories are youths daunting today? Pendants that are of the shape of skulls, devilish and evil looking doodling on T-shirts with blood, tatoo of the devilish creatures on their bodies.

Ok, I think I digressed a little.
